Students
Springwood Grange is a wonderful yard with great facilities and a happy, welcoming atmosphere. We offer a very rare opportunity to those wishing to further their education whilst gaining practical experience.
Whenever anything interesting is happening on the yard e.g. a vet visit, farrier, dentist, saddler, chiropractor, equine masseur etc students are invited to watch and ask questions of the professional involved, most of them like to talk so it can be very entertaining as well as educational!
We can train students up to Stage 3 or Pony Club B test although if students don't wish to take exams then they are welcome to come to gain experience and expertise. Students can stay as long or as short a time as they wish but all should go away with a greater understanding of horses and a broader knowledge of yard routine.
We are happy to accept anyone (subject to space) who is reasonably competent and is willing to work hard to maintain our high standards.
Training
Students are trained on top quality horses and, according to their riding ability, get the opportunity to compete at dressage, show jumping, ODEs and hunter trials. Stable management lectures are given according to time (normally more in the winter) although any queries are answered directly or a lecture is built around that subject.
Students are currently paid £60 per week + accommodation and breakfast (bread, butter, tea, coffee, spreads etc). As well as in house training students also receive one lesson a week from a top trainer, as well as the opportunity to spend a day at a time at different local yards (e.g. racing, stud, showing etc) to get a taste of other disciplines.
Our accommodation is clean, warm and cosy and students may live in or out. The whole yard is strictly no smoking.
